Not sure if this is old news or new news but here it goes....
Not that I thought we lived in a private, semi-private, or
somewhat private world, but this makes it hit home a little more.
Google Maps "StreetView" is kind of nice and "different"
at the same time. Let's face it, the age we live in allows data
mining company's to collect, package and resell information at will.
Think about it, if you pay bills online or use a credit/debit card a
person could get real-time information on your whereabouts every! Depending on how often you use these things.
This may not be something one thinks about often, after all, it all
happens in cyberspace somewhere right? Now it's in your face buddy!
You thought caller-ID was making it harder to cheat on your
girlfriend. Now she can find you at your ex-girlfriends house on
Google Maps with a screen-shot as proof! Just click the "StreetView" and type in an
address and WHAM! busted!
O.K., so I'm exaggerating a bit. It's not real-time viewing but
it is probably only a matter of time before it is. I actually
like. So if I'm looking for the restaurant or that little
hole-in-the-wall business behind the old grocery store that I didn't
know existed, that just happens to have the part I need to fix my
laptop or truck, I can find it before I even leave home. Nice! I've used
Google maps with Google Earth to get a good idea of things before I drive to it for the first time, this just enhances that capability
by a few clicks. I have even guided people to places via cell phone
using those Google apps. This really makes those "dispatch"
duties a breeze.
All in all I like it, I'm sure we will see some really nice
add-ons to this soon.
