    WoW! XML!

Blizzard has a Web Site up called WoW Armory where you can go look at all the details of any character on any server in the World of Warcraft. It is a pretty interesting site; and in and of itself is quite fun if you are a WoW player.

But what is really interesting about this site to me is that it is all done in XML & XSL. This is the first site that I have seen that has this size, scope and receives heavy traffic that is done all in XML. I find this interesting. XML (with XSL Transformation) has not really caught on as a display methodology for the Web ... And probably rightfully so; as XML seems to be better suited as a lightweight data transportation / communication technology.

But Blizzard, a company that I have a bit of respect for, seems to me to have pulled this off quite nicely. It is a very cool (heavy dork factor there), graphically heavy, dynamic site that pushes and pulls quite a heavy load of data. And, while it is clunky (a little slow) sometimes; it runs no slower than a lot of other high traffic, data centric sites that I have seen.

Hats off to Blizzard for creating a great Web Site by going off the beaten path with XML.

Especially for us World of Warcraft Gamers!
